Just a little green

G and I went on a small mission to the Northern suburb of Papanui after work this morning to visit a smallgoods shop for holiday supplies.
It's a bloody stonking Nor' Wester today, hot and dry.
I suppose that would be a Sou' Wester for you Northern Hemisphere lovelies?!
G took me along the bicycle route he take when he goes to the swimming pool up there; it was so peaceful and pleasant...
We stopped in this sweet park for some gratuituous Friday Frock pix....

Frock-made it myself out of opshopped fabric
Cardi-Lampang, Thailand
Shoes-Bangkok, Thailand
Bow-made it myself
Handbag-60's vanity case, opshopped
Earrings-Selcuk, Turkey
Beads-60's, opshopped
Pendant-60's or 70's, London, 1989!

Booboids-courtesy of my Mama, who would be SO proud (and astonished!) of me today; I preserved some lemons!
My FIRST EVER attempt to preserve anything!
My Mama was the Queen of preserves....
And I have been blithering about doing some for years......
It's a talent of mine; blithering.
Just one of many.

The wind played havoc with my hair!
On our way home we stopped in at what turned out to be a little hidden gem:

G had spotted this in his travels, hidden in deepest Mairehau, a suburb I very, very rarely go to!
In fact, I never go there!
But now I have a reason to....

It's a wee shop of vintage, vintage inspired and new goodies, and the proprietess was just lovely.

Prices were exceedingly reasonable!
I rather fancied this sweet little navy homemade frock!
But I think it was just a little too small for me..

And was very taken by this NZ made Horrockses frock....I can hear Georgia Rose panting from here!
It calls to my 50's loving side, but I fear the colours may be too inspipid for me...what do you think, lovelies?!
It would fit perfectly, and I could pep it up with red accessories....and take it up a bit...
I think I'm convincing myself.....!
There were some sublime little 70's printed numbers and some scrummy 60's numbers...but all too small for me!

Gawd I love frocks!
A gal can never have too many!
Thank goodness there are so many divoon era's to chose from!
I could never, ever get bored!

Happy Friday, lovers!
Check out my Nigella inspired arse!

Oooh, you're all citrusy and lemony and tangerini in that frock and cardi. You, dull? Add some red or melon(s) to that Horrockses dress and it'll be very becoming on you.
I want to rummage in The Vintage Cupboard!

Ohhhhh so lovely mummery combo. You had me at green and floral. I love the dress immediately the colours and patter. Are sort of similar to a two piece combo I just got from the gorgeous Leisa. Such a pretty area to frolick in, I dream of living in a street with trees like that.

Finally that store what a fab surprise, is that a rack of sweet as can be kiddies clothes in one of the first pics at the forefront of the pic?

You know, I actually kind of know the woman who owns that shop! She is a family friend who I haven't seen in at least 10 years, but she did ask thoguh my mum if I could purchase homewares in Vietnam for her to stock in the shop! That dress is gorgeous and I reckon you could make it work. The sight of that red striped-dotted-gingham skirt in the last picture is making me lose my mind! Such a shame I'm only back in Chch for Christmas day or else I'd be there.

Sorry, I mean third to last!

Definitely grab that frock, take a few inches off it and it will be perfect. I would say it's also crying out for some embellishment around the neckline.
You're very citrus-y sweet today, the lace under your dress is so pretty! And that necklace is just gorgeous!

Looking so refreshingly zingy in green and lemon, the scenery is so lush like you my love!
The dress is gorge, definitely get it, you will give it some vavavoom xxxx

I love that dress, orange and green are a fabulous combination and you look windswept and glamorous and gorgeous, stalking off down the tree-lined avenue with your marvellous arsellous wiggling! And I am perving just a wee bit at your legs and frothy petticoat.
Pendant and preserved lemon envy going on over here...
The shops looks delicious, I am spying all sorts of prints and colours I'd like a look at... The Horrockses is pretty, beige always turns me off too but it has the white and red to offset, and I bet you could make it ROCK!
Hope the wind settles down for the weekend, love, hahaha! xxxxxx

I don't think that frock's insipid at all. It's red/orange spots save it from insipidness.
And anyway, seriously could you ever look insipid in anything Helga?
From what I've seen, I DON'T think so!

It was a real treat to have you visit the shop today Helga and loved your outfit!! Thank you for the enthusiastic response to our shop :-)
Georgia! - lovely to see you on this blog - last time I saw you was at Warren agency and you were wearing a wonderful kitten dress, which I mentioned to Sarah H, who then told me it was you!! (had been several years since we had seen each other). Hope that you can come visit the shop one day Georgia - we are there Christmas eve late but off to see family on Christmas day.
Trudie - we do have childrens clothing - some of it new, homemade with a whimsical/vintage look and others = second hand e.g. smocked dresses and UK brands such as Monsoon/ Marks & spencer etc..

Don't be ridiculous woman. Get back to the shop and get that dress. You're right, take it up a bit and add MORE colour and bob's yer uncle or some such thing. Love the dress you made too and your sandals are divine. xx

I feel like I say it all the time but THIS frock is one of my all time faves! Green & orange....YES please! With ribbon on the hem & pockets, AND broiderie anglaise! I'm having heart palpitations! Your wonderful booboids are talking to me as is everything about this outfit. And SQUEE to another place to discover in Christchurch! Your pics look amazing. I do love the navy frock, but the beige isn't doing much for me on the rack. Of course it would come up a treat with the right accessories, which you certainly would have. There is never such thing as TOO many frocks! Xx

I agree, you never have enough dresses... Or skirts, tops, trousers, bags, shoes lol. Do you follow Dolly Clackett? She has a dress collection to die for too. You look gorgeous today, that dress you made is so beautiful and summery. No wonder G is always smiling when he has you beside him. I've never tried preserving anything. Xx

You must go back and buy the dress! It's so pretty. You could jazz it up with Turquoise accessories if you didn't feel like red. It looks like a beautiful spring day in your part of the world and you fit into your bright and beautiful surroundings perfectly xxx

I can almost feel the warmth of that wind on my rain soaked, freezing cold face. More vids of sunshine please!

Fab arse. I can't wait to PINCH it.

Go back to the Vintage Cupboard and get me that glorious psychedelic print turquoise number, the cerise nylon nightie and the patchwork jacket, will you?
What a gorgeous shop. Would you have been tempted with the Horrockses frock if it didn't have that label? It's not shouting "Helga" at me like that beautiful air hostess pussy bow frock is. I know you'd make it look wonderful but everything you wear does anyway!!!
Love today's Summer outfit, you look an absolute vision and your hair is always perfection!
Love! Vix

The frock you made is divine!!!
The more I look at it the more I love it!!! You should come back to that glorious shop and buy the polkadot treasure, I think that with your endless creativity no frock on earth could result insipid once you wear it, you are our Queen Midas, everything you touch turns into gold!
I already imagine a red/fuchsia/yellow combination with it!
I wish to you and G the best rock and roll weekend!!
Love you more than reasonable prices and Nigella!!!xxxxxxx

I've been popping across here from time to time ever since finding your wonderful blog via the glorious Vintage Vixen. And this post is just what I needed to lift the spirits of a damp, dark, drizzly day under lowering clouds. What a mood-vaulting combination of spring green and orange. Oh and 'blithering' - I intend to get that into conversation as many times as I can in the next few hours. Great word.

These picture of you among all that greenery and towering trees in the sunshine have filled my dreary gray and wet morning with a bit of warmth. You look like summer. Thanks gorgeous! I love this frock and the lil gem of a shop that G found, wow I would go crazy in there, all displayed so nicely too.

Enjoy the weekend love!

That's a lovely outfit you have on there, such pretty colours and again, so ladylike! Those shoes are so delicate. Do you walk and cycle in them? I could pose in them and that would be it.

I am so incredibly jealous of your weather, but even the photos of sunshine are making me feel better.

Shop is gorgeous. Ah, lovely post. xx

Love your outfit and the way you are matchy-matchy with the scenery. You are a clever bird, running up a frock like that, the printed broderie anglais is so pretty and love the Thai shoes.(long time)
Not sure any dress would look insipid with you inside it, but meself I'd be interested in that red spotty/gingham skirt.

I hope you got that horrockses dress. I know that it will look good on you with a few of your gorgeous accessories. I would love to pay a visit to that store. I see so many lovely things.... Whoohoo for the lemons. :) I love to preserve fruits. Where we lived before there was a big fruitgarden and every fall I was freserving things. Still have some bottles from the last year we live there. That dress your are wearing in the park is to sweet...

You're looking so fresh and Springtimey these days Helga, those colours are all so delicate and pretty. That shop looks so amazing, I'm very jealous, and I see my holy grail burgundy velvet blazer peeking out on a rack, oh I wish I could get my hands on it and see if it's The One I've been searching for! Love your walk away too, like the end of a film. xx

CityScape Skybaby said...

Ooh meant to add, you should get the Horrocks dress, it's beautiful and if anyone knows how to jazz it up with colour, it's you. xx

Aren't you a refreshing sight in your tangerine and lime! I love every part of this outfit from the bow to your adorable orange sandals. Why don't we have any cute vintage stores like that here? I can see a few things that I want already, like the patchwork jacket which I think Vix already called dibs on...You could definitely work the dress with some red accessories - go back and get it, girl!

You cheered up a dull, cold Canadian winter day.

Shoes and a dress. I won't be able to wear shoes outdoors here until May. Too much ice to slide on.

A ray of sunshine and colour in a dull day.

Thank you

You are just a beautiful vision walking away into dappled green. Such a gorgeous and fresh outfit, the ombre effect of your pearls and ribbon detailing on your dress - you're amazing to make that (and preserves - I know how much work that is!). Hooray for discovering a new shop! I give the dotty dress thumbs-up. xoxo
